The following steps are necessary to activate SSL for your account.
- Activate SSL add-on in the SSL manager. When the SSL add-on is activated, you will receive two email notices, one verifying the SSL setup, and another verifying the activation of the UniqueIP/Unlimited subdomain add-on. The UniqueIP/Unlimited subdomain add-on is necessary because the use of a personal SSL certificate requires that your account has a unique IP address. The Unique IP add-on is included in the price of the SSL add-on.
- Once you receive the email notices, log back into the SSL manager and provide us with your Organization Information. This information is required to use SSL.
- When your Organization Information is submitted, we will generate a CSR* and display it in the SSL manager, along with the pertinent web server information.
- IMPORTANT: For the widest possible browser compatibility, we recommend the use of "single root" certificates, such as those issued by:
- SSL certificates that are not "single root" may be susceptible to certain performance issues. If you choose to use a certificate issued by a company that is not in our recommended list, it is very important that you read this Knowledge Base article for details on potential problems related to some SSL certificates.
- Using the CSR and web server information that we provided, apply for your certificate through an SSL provider (see our recommended list).
- When your SSL application is approved by SSL provider, they will email the SSL certificate to you, along with any intermediate certificates that are required.
- Submit the SSL certificate via the SSL manager. When your certificate is submitted, we will install it on your account. It may take up to 24 hours for this step of your SSL service to be processed.
- As a final step, test your web site using HTTPS with different browsers to ensure that the SSL installation is working properly.
*What is a CSR?
A CSR is a public key that we generate on your web server. It validates the specific information about the web server and your organization.
